6 fatalities in January alone prompt a safe driving message from Hawaii Island’s mayor

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii County Mayor Mitch Roth is elevating the alarm following a spate of main visitors crashes on the Large Island during the last week, together with one which left three folks lifeless.

From Jan. 24 to 31, there have been 18 main crashes on Hawaii Island. And in January, there have been six visitors fatalities on the island ― double the quantity in comparison with January 2021.

“We’re asking that our residents drive with aloha and nice consideration to make sure that all people will get house to their households and family members safely,” Roth stated.

Roth stated the message is straightforward: Seat belts and following the foundations of the highway save lives.

“It’s extremely saddening to know that higher practices on our roadways may have saved the lives of six members of our neighborhood.”

In a fatal head-on crash Sunday night in Glenwood, three folks have been killed ― a Utah couple and a Volcano lady. Police say pace and inattention are probably components.
