The New York State Police (NYSP) reported 139 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) during Super Bowl weekend. The majority of arrests were made in the Lower Hudson Valley area with 43, while only one was from the North Country.
The state police force carried out a DWI enforcement initiative from the 9th to the 11th which resulted in almost 6,900 tickets issued. The NYSP also looked into 245 vehicle collisions causing 37 injuries.
For the Northern region, or Troop B, the ticket breakdown was as follows:
– 1 DWI arrest
– 156 cases of speeding
– 3 distracted driving incidents
– 13 child restraint/seatbelt-related violations
– 5 instances of ignoring the Move Over law
– The total number of tickets issued, including other types of ticketed violations, was 556
More generally, the tickets were issued in the following categories:
– Speeding: 2,180
– Distracted driving: 192
– Seatbelt violations: 231
– Move over law violations: 58
