Horseheads Village Trustee Charged with DWI, Vehicular Assault After Yates Crash

Village Trustee of Horseheads, Mark J. Cronin, is facing numerous charges due to his involvement in a DWI crash on July 4, 2023, close to Penn Yan. The crash resulted in injuries to five people. The formal indictment was announced by Yates County Clerk’s Office on December 28, explaining the charges against Cronin.

Cronin was indicted on two vehicular assault charges in the first degree, two counts of driving under the influence, and a single count of not stopping at a stop sign. It’s claimed Cronin was driving intoxicated in a pickup truck on Second Milo Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the junction of Old Bath Road and Second Milo Road.

The accident involved a second vehicle with eight occupants, six of them being children. Five people suffered heavy injuries from the crash, according to the indictment.

Despite being presented with a plea bargain by the Yates County District Attorney, Cronin rejected the offer. Court papers reveal Cronin is due to re-appear in court on Tuesday, January 9.
