A man from Tarboro, North Carolina, is facing a charge of driving while impaired (DWI) following a fatal vehicular accident which resulted in the death of his son and two other people. The accident took place to the east of Rocky Mount in Edgecombe County. The incident was reported at around 6:30pm near Kingsboro Road.

The cause of the accident is reported to be speeding and loss of control by the eastbound driver, who collided with a westbound pickup truck. 39-year-old Jerry Lee Pollard was identified as the eastbound driver and now faces a DWI charge. His son, 19-year-old Jeremy Lee Pollard, of Bethel, and another 19-year old, Jhawaiun Drake from Rocky Mount, were killed in the crash. A third fatality was Brittany Marie Armstrong, a 34-year-old woman from Rocky Mount.

Following the incident, officials discovered beer cans in Pollard’s vehicle. One more passenger in Pollard’s car, a 30-year-old, sustained injuries and was airlifted to ECU Health in Greenville and is now stable. Pollard likewise is receiving treatment at ECU Health with a stable condition. It was mentioned that the three passengers, including the late Jeremy Lee Pollard and Jhawaiun Drake, were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. The pickup truck’s 61-year-old driver only sustained minor injuries. Trooper Chandler Blackwell noted that everyone else in the accident had their seatbelts on. The road was closed after the incident but reopened on the early hours of the following Sunday. Blackwell said further charges related to the accident could be forthcoming.
