A DUI checkpoint in Maryland led to the arrest of a 25-year-old driver who was not impaired, however will face weapons costs after being busted with a loaded handgun in Charles County.
Waldorf resident William Andrew Mells was arrested by legislation enforcement authorities through the sobriety checkpoint, which was performed on Leonardtown Highway within the space of Renner Highway in Waldorf, a spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Workplace introduced on Tuesday, June 21.
When Mells bought to the checkpoint, police stated that it was decided he was in possession of a loaded handgun, and suspected marijuana, resulting in his apprehension.
Mells was arrested and charged with unlawful transportation of a firearm, driving an uninsured and unregistered motorcar, and different associated costs, the spokesperson stated.
Following his arrest, Mells was launched from the Charles County Detention Middle by a district court docket commissioner on a $3,000 unsecured bond. No return court docket date for Mells was introduced by the sheriff’s workplace.
