A man was apprehended in Catawba County on Sunday and is facing several charges, according to a report from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP). The man was identified as Ricardo Padilla Perez and has been charged with multiple counts for hit-and-run incidents and one count for drunk driving. Perez was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road on NC 321 during the early hours of Sunday morning. Police were able to halt his pickup truck using a ‘pit maneuver’ near Catawba and Lincoln County boundaries. A breathalyzer test revealed Perez had a blood alcohol level of .15, almost double the lawful limit. Two individuals were injured near the River Road exit, about 11 miles from where Perez was stopped, with at least two individuals brought to hospital for earlier crashes in Catawba County.
