Burlington Man Charged with DUI, Gun Assault

According to the police, late on Monday, a man from Burlington was arrested following an alleged assault on a motorist in a parking lot in South Burlington. He then fled the scene but later crashed into a stationary car in the Old North End. The alleged assailant, 24-year-old Brian L. McGrath II, was reported to have engaged in a conflict with another driver on Shelburne Road, which ended up in a brawl in a parking area. McGrath supposedly wielded a 9mm handgun and struck the other man in the head, causing a wound. After leaving the scene in a truck, he collided into a parked vehicle around Manhattan Drive near Oak Street just past 9:15 PM. Subsequent to a crash report, Burlington police arrived, and on interacting with McGrath, noticed signs of possible intoxication. Upon arrest for suspected DUI and subsequent inspection of his vehicle, a loaded 9mm handgun was discovered. He was taken to the South Burlington Police Department and it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for an unrelated case. Unable to post bail, McGrath was sent to the Northwest State Correctional Facility, with his arraignment slated for Tuesday.
