Chief Shane Guyant of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department recently reported several incidents.
Firstly, a hit-and-run incident was reported at a restaurant on Roanoke Avenue around 2 a.m. on a Friday. The vehicle involved was stopped, and the driver, Detron Robinson, 43, from Roanoke Rapids, showed signs of intoxication. Initially refusing a breath sample, Officer P. Dueitt noticed a strong smell of alcohol when Robinson exited the vehicle. Lt. D. Jenkins conducted sobriety tests, further indicating Robinson was under the influence. He was arrested and charged with DWI and misdemeanor hit and run with property damage, after refusing to submit a breath sample. A $750 bond was posted, and he is due to appear in court on April 12.
On a separate occasion, on a Monday around noon, reports were made regarding a suspicious man, Dan Demont Carter, 41, near an ATM on East Tenth Street. On finding Carter, responsible Capt. G.L. Williams discovered an outstanding arrest warrant relating to a stolen vehicle. In Carter’s possession were a black backpack, a camo mask, and a .380 caliber gun, along with a toy weapon. Carter had a past conviction for second-degree murder, and was charged for the outstanding warrant and gun possession as a felon. After a brief period in custodial holding, Carter is no longer detained but faces two court appearances in March.
Lastly, a case of identity theft was reported on February 6, wherein a credit card was stolen from a wallet at a pharmacy and was immediately used at various locations. The police have obtained a photo of the potential suspect and request anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
