In Lubbock, Texas, Shallowater Fire Chief and Lubbock Fire Rescue Captain, Cory Buck, 41, has been detained on charges related to Driving While Impaired (DWI). A police document revealed new insights about Buck’s apprehension, procured by EverythingLubbock.com on Wednesday.

According to a censored report from Lubbock’s police force, one of their officers spotted a car on Alcove Avenue just before midnight on January 11. The vehicle was allegedly going between 60 and 70 mph and almost hit the police car. Despite attempting a traffic stop, the officer believed Buck had not noticed his lights.

The pursuit unfolded with Buck allegedly reaching speeds of 80 mph, even when the officer switched on the siren. As Buck was about to turn onto a dirt road, the officer decided against following him due to safety concerns. Afterwards, the officer found that Buck’s vehicle had hit a mound of earth and rolled over. Initially, there appeared to be no one inside the car. However, Buck was eventually found unconscious in the backseat, identifiable by his jeans. An off-duty firefighter assisted the officer until emergency medical services arrived.

At the hospital, Buck’s replies to most questions were “I don’t remember,” including claiming he didn’t remember his own name, contradicting previous statements to the nurses. The report noted that Buck’s speech was heavily slurred.

Lubbock Fire Rescue has acknowledged the arrest of Captain Cory Buck, who has consequently been placed on paid leave pending an investigation. The organization assures that they take such behavior seriously and hold their personnel to high conduct standards both on and off duty. Actions contradicting their mission and values are not tolerated, with a commitment to serve with transparency, integrity, and accountability.

Buck was charged with DWI and incarcerated at the Lubbock County Detention Center, although records show he was not in jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
