The life of 60-year-old Guadalupe resident, Gregorio Dominguez, was tragically cut short ninety minutes into Christmas day. Deputy District Attorney Tyson McCoy of Santa Barbara County reported that the incident took place at 1:30 am on December 25 when a 27-year-old driver from Santa Maria named Bladimir Agustin Chavez, swerved across the median of Highway 166, resulting in a direct collision with Dominguez’s Infinity sedan. The crash scene revealed that Chavez was driving on the wrong side of the road with eleven empty Modelo beer bottles in his car. The absence of a driver’s license suggested he wasn’t legally permitted to drive. A CHP-administered field sobriety test also indicated that Chavez had been driving his Toyota Camry with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15% which is almost double the legal limit of 0.08%. Chavez was subsequently arrested and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail. He has been charged with several violations including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving with an above-legal alcohol limit causing injury. Currently, he is in custody with bail set at $250,000.
