Pat Mahomes Sr., father of the famous football player Patrick Mahomes, has been officially charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI). Texas prosecutors charged the 53-year-old retired athlete with felony DWI on April 3rd. If convicted for this offense, he could face a prison term of up to 10 years, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.
In February, Pat was apprehended by law enforcement in Tyler, Texas, on suspicion of drunk driving. Law enforcement took him into custody on finding an open alcohol container in his vehicle and after he confessed to drinking. He was later released from the Smith County Jail after posting $10,000 bail.
Patrick commented on his father’s arrest prior to the Super Bowl reports, referring to it as a family matter while confirming that his father was doing alright.
Disconcertingly, this is not the first time Pat has been charged with a DWI, this being the sixth time. He previously served a 40-day jail sentence after his fifth DWI arrest in 2019, which was completed under a weekend work release program.
Pat, who had a career in major league baseball from 1992 to 2003, is also the father to Patrick, Jackson, Zoe Mahomes, and Graham Walker. He was previously married to Randi Martin, mother to three of his kids, until their separation in 2006. On a recent appearance on the Greeny Show, the former baseball player talked about his eldest son, suggesting that it’s still debatable if Patrick is the best quarterback of all time.
Patrick has built a noteworthy career in the NFL, making it to the Super Bowl four times in his six seasons as the starting quarterback for the Chiefs since 2018, and winning the championship in both 2020 and 2023.
