During the Nebraska boys and girls high school basketball tournaments, the Nebraska State Patrol enacted several enforcement campaigns and consequently took off 35 drivers from the road for suspected impaired driving, according to a report released on Thursday. Figures also showed that officers issued 612 speeding tickets during the period, with 38 of these drivers speeding over 100 mph. 68 drivers were apprehended for driving under suspension, whereas 15 minors were issued with citations for possession.
Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the state patrol, commented on their efforts saying, “As teams claimed state titles in Lincoln, our troopers and dispatchers were working diligently to keep fans safe as they traveled across the state.”
These enforcement campaigns were made possible in part due to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.
